CELEBRATING 13 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL DISABILITY ADVOCACY BY THE H4P ORGANIZATION

In the heart of Ghana, a beacon of hope has been shining for the past 13 years from the Here for Perfection (H4P) Organization. Founded in 2011, this remarkable organization, under the stewardship of Bishop Dr. Charles Cofie Hackman, Founder and CEO of the H4P Organization fondly known as the Helping Hand Man, has committed to transforming the lives of persons with disabilities as well as bringing dignity to disability.

The core belief of H4P Organization lies in the African Dream – a vision where Africans, irrespective of abilities or disabilities, actively contribute to the development of the continent. Rejecting the notion of difference between able-bodied individuals and persons with disabilities, the organization champions the dignity and resourcefulness inherent in all human beings.

On the occasion of their 13th anniversary, H4P Organization reaffirmed its commitment to making a difference. As a gesture of goodwill, charitable donations were made to the Christina Hackman Wards, patients and medical staff at the Manna Hospital in Accra, Ghana, on the 8 of January 2024. Essential items made up of detergents, toiletries and provisions were given to patients and medical personnel present. Bishop Dr. Charles Cofie Hackman, also paid a visit to the paediatric unit and gave items including diapers and toiletries were given to the nursing mothers and their babies.

Mrs. Linda A. D. Ablorh, Director of Development and People, Manna Mission Incorporated and the hospital matron, Mrs. Joyce Bulla were full of praise to Bishop Dr Charles Cofie Hackman and the entire H4P Organisation for the upkeep of the wards since their adoption as well as the love shown through donations to the patients and medical personnel. For over a decade, the H4P Organization has graced the screens through the ground-breaking Helping Hand TV Show, the first TV program in Ghana where disability-related matters are discussed, aiming not only to shed light on the challenges of PWDs but also to showcase the ability in disability.

H4P Organization’s impact goes far beyond the screens, as it actively engages in projects that contribute to the betterment of the disability community – health, sports, arts and entertainment, education amongst others. The Helping Hand Community Projects exemplify the organization’s mission to create an enabling environment that protects the vulnerable in society. Through various initiatives, the H4P Organization has become a driving force in alleviating social inequity, advocating for the fundamental rights and privileges of persons with disabilities. The H4P - Ability Praise Concert (APC) has for two years been a platform for the promotion of abilities of persons with disabilities in the area of creative arts and entertainment. The C.H.I.L. AWARDS- Christina Hackman Impact Leadership Awards is an award scheme instituted to honour and acknowledge people who contribute significantly towards the development of the disability community.

The National Inter-Schools Disability Fun Games as well as the Career and Guidance seminars for students with disability stand as a testament to their commitment to fostering inclusivity amongst special schools and students. As part of their broader mission, H4P Organization extends its impact to address health challenges. The female ward and maternity wards of the Manna Mission Hospital were last year refurbished and adopted by the H4P Organization. The wards were then named after Mrs Christina Anansewa Hackman, Chief patron and the late mother of Bishop Dr. Charles Cofie Hackman in honour of her memory. Periodic donations are made to patients, medical staff and the hospital as a whole.

The Celebration of Love projects, have among other things have sought to preserve the lives of the next generation by organizing free health screening exercises in special needs schools – a free medical screening in general consultation, ENT consultation, Eye screening, malaria testing and dental Care at Dr. Seth Tetteh-Ocloo State School for the Deaf, a free physiotherapy session and audiological assessment at the With God Cerebral Palsy Centre in Winneba and a free Health Screening comprised of Eye screening, dental screening, hearing assessment and ear cleaning at Akropong School for the Blind. In a world where Persons with Disabilities often face marginalization, H4P Organization stands tall as a beacon of empowerment, championing the belief that everyone deserves equal rights, freedoms, and opportunities to realize their fullest potential.
